The Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, has appeared on the Top 10 Banned Books List multiple times. Reasons for challenges: violence, use of N-word, featuring "white savior" character, perception of the Black experience, racial slurs and their negative effect on students, offensive language, racism, unsuited to age group
Dav Pikley's Captain Underpants series consistently made the Top 10 List during the 2000's to the mid-2010's. Reasons: offensive language, unsuited for age group, sexually explicit, anti-family content, and violence
Maya Angelou's, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, has been on and off the Top 10 List since its inception in the 1990's. The Color Purple is #17 on the Top 100 Banned / Challenged Books of 2000-2009. The book has been challenged multiple times through the years, beginning in 1984 and continuing to this date. Reasons: offensive language, sexually explicit, unsuited to age group, homosexuality, religious objections, rape, incest, drug abuse, and African history
