International Games Month (IGM) started out as National Games Day in 2007. The free one-day event was inspired by an attempt to set a world record for the number of people playing the same game at the same time at libraries around the world. Since its inception, over 54 countries and territories on all 7 continents have celebrated.
International Games Month is hosted by volunteers from libraries from the following organizations around the world
Why have games in libraries?
A better question may be, "Why not?" While libraries provide games for many reasons, our primary motivation is to provide students with a way to relax before, between, and after classes. It's important to take a break and have some downtime from the stressors of studying and attending classes. Plus, playing games and solving puzzles helps to boost creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills...not to mention, it's nice to have some fun or friendly competition with your friends.
